Opening & Closing Number
The Opening and Closing Number is an opportunity for select dancers who have performed in our Open Call Competition on Tuesday afternoon to be chosen to perform in a piece that will open/close the Final Night Gala. Our judges will choose their top performers and place them into either the Opening or Closing Number. The Opening Number will be choreographed by Hannah Jane Frederick and the Closing Number will be choreographed by Emily Brown.
Opening Number Costume: Midnight blue scheme with black involved. Such as midnight blue top with black pants or vice versa. Styling more performance based versus casual.
Closing Number Costume: Black denim (shorts, pants, overalls, vests, shirts, etc) and American flag red top or other piece of clothing. No graphics or words. Pedestrian outfits with no color other than black and red.

Opening Number Choreography by Hannah Jane Frederick
Hannah Jane Frederick is a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She grew up training intensely at the Dance Shoppe in Plymouth in all genres of dance. Hannah has been based out of New York City for the past eight years. She is an up and coming choreographer specializing in Contemporary and Contemporary Fusion. Since moving to New York, Hannah has been studying at the prestigious, Broadway Dance Center in several of their professional programs, including the Intern Scholarship Program (now the Professional Semester). Shortly after interning, Hannah had the privilege of working with Calen Kurka and Chris Hale in their contemporary training program :Pushing Progress. Hannah has performed in several choreographers festivals including Carnival, Sirens after dark, Sybarite, and the Capezio ACE AWARDS. As well as music videos, shows, and dancing for various artists around the city. Her work has been selected numerous times as "Choreographer's Pick" at The Pulse On Tour. In the last year she has presented work in both the 2016 and 2017 Pushing Progress Showcase Series, Jared Grime's "Run The Night", Sybarite "Love is Love", Jennifer Mueller's "Hatch" Series, and Shelly Hutchinson's "Giving Tree". Hannah is currently on faculty at Broadway Dance Center, teaching open classes and has also been on faculty for their Children and Teen Program. She is full time faculty at Tribe Body. And also a resident faculty member for the touring convention Artistic Dance Exchange. She continues to teach and choreograph nationally and internationally. Most recently she has been teaching in Rishon Le Zion, Israel, at Nadine Bommer Animato Dance Theater. She has numerous works in process which will be showcased in upcoming shows around New York City.
Closing Number Choreography by Emily Brown
Emily Brown, based out of New York City, is trained in various styles of dance. Growing up in Northern Virginia, she performed with Debbie Allen at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in two of her original productions; “Dancing in the Wings” and “Alex in Wonderland” as well as, having the opportunity to perform in Italy and Spain, at the Prix d’Italia and the Prix d’Espana, with The American Dance Company under the directorship of Mark Marino. While obtaining her BFA in Dance from George Mason University, Emily was fortunate enough to work with choreographers Mark Morris, Ohad Naharin, Christopher d’Amboise, David Parsons, Susan Shields, Bill T. Jones, Doug Varone, and Martha Graham. During this time Emily was a top 34 finalist in Season 4 of Fox TV’s “So You Think You Can Dance.” After graduating GMU, Emily went on to become a performing member of contemporary dance companies MarInspired (Marinda Davis), Derek Mitchell Dance Company (Derek Mitchell), CATastrophe! Dance (Cat Cogliandro), Koin & Co Dancers (Ali Koinoglou), and also The Difference Between Company (Talia Favia) Emily prides herself on her professionalism & dedication which has shown in her assisting capabilities. She has assisted artists Mia Michaels, Chloe Arnold, Derek Mitchell, Cat Cogliandro, Marinda Davis, and Attila Csiki. Performance is one of Emily’s strongest suits and personal passion. She has been performed at the Capezio A.C.E awards, Carnival, Sybarite, and Broadway Underground coast to coast in NYC and LA. Those performances included works by Michelle Dorrance, Derrick Grant, Jared Grimes, and Jason Samuel Smith. She also had the opportunity to perform a tap and contemporary duet alongside spoken word poet, Sekou Andrews, at the TEDMED convention at The Kennedy Center. Aside from her flourishing dance & performing career, Emily also teaches and choreographs for studios, conventions & master classes all over the United States, as well as Canada and Costa Rica. Currently, Emily is on faculty with the intensive “Power Pak” Koin & Co Dancers, Studio Bleu, and NJ Dance Fusion. Currently, Emily continues to train & perform and enjoys pursuing her passion for educating the next generation of dancers!
The Performance Number
Register to learn and perform a piece at our Battle Royale Finals on Friday night! This piece is choreographed and taught by special guest faculty and is a great opportunity for individual dancers to perform on The PULSE stage. Rehearsals will take place before and after classes.
PRICE: $75 per participant
*Dancers participating in the Performance Number must arrive by 6:00-8:00pm on Tuesday, June 27th. Rehearsals will begin Wednesday June 28th at 8:00am. Dancers that are registered in Open Call Competition may not participate in The Performance Number (rehearsals will conflict).
Performance Number Costume: Black booty shorts for women, black pants for men (not jazz pants). Black or tan jazz shoes or character shoes, solid color tank top or sports bra (no pattern or logos).
Choreography by Ricky Hinds
Ricky Hinds is the Associate Director for Disney's Newsies (Broadway/National Tour) and the Associate Director/Choreographer for Here Lies Love at the Public Theatre (NYC) and the National Theatre (London). He was the Associate Director/Choreographer for the recent Broadway revival of Jekyll and Hyde and the Assistant Director of Il Divo: A Musical Affair.
Richard's directing and choreography credits include Smokey Joe’s Cafe (Capital Repertory Theatre, New Theatre), Fame (Macau International Music Festival), The Fig Leaves are Falling (Connelly Theatre), Cabaret (Kansas City Repertory Theatre), Joseph… (Capital Playhouse), The Sound of Music, All Shook Up, Pump Boys and Dinettes, Hairspray (New Theatre), Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, America's Got Talent, The Bethenny Show, and Good Afternoon America (featuring Liza Minnelli).
